I avoided a one year olds birthday party today.
Not because I don’t like kids. I love kids. Especially this kid.
I avoided the party because I didn’t want to put myself into an awkward situation with someone who I haven’t spoken to in almost year. And that last time I spoke with this person, well, let’s just say it wasn’t all that pleasant.
I feel awful for bailing on my friend and her little one, but I think I made the right decision…and this seems to sum up how I feel right now.

My birthday weekend in bullets.
- - 90’s cover band.
- - Disappointing pizza.
- - Dancing.
- - A few (a lot?) too many.
- - Shopping.
- - Queso.
- - Falling.
- - Parking ticket.
- - Food-related gifts: fancywine opener, saucepan and Crockpot.
My latest painting! I made this for my friend Jess for her birthday. I did something a little different with this one. I wrapped ribbon around the edges instead of painting them, so it created sort of a frame.
Jess just moved back to Texas from North Carolina and needed some artwork for her apartment. I am hoping she hangs this one in her kitchen. Spicy!
After a long day trying to distract my mom, hiding behind fences and circling parking lots (don’t ask!), decorating her friends’ house with 60’s-themed decorations and lots of stress, we totally surprised my mom. She had a wonderful 60th birthday and everyone had a great time.
Note: My parents friends party harder than I do! I called it a night at 12:30 and they all partied until 2:30-3:30am. I don’t know how they do it, but I hope I am that way when I am their age!
It’s gonna be a GOOD weekend!
- - Friday: Half day at work! Kicked off the weekend by visiting Baby Hudson and my friends Makenzie and Chris (See previous post). Tonight, I am staying in, catching up on some missed TV shows, making a grocery list and sleeping.
- - Saturday: Grocery shopping. Maybe yoga. Cleaning. Shopping for a birthday gift for my grandma and possibly the Michael Kors bag I’ve been eying. Dinner at Bolsa and seeing Lovefool - The Quintessential 90’s Cover Band at HOB Dallas.
- - Sunday: Heading to my parents house for a visit and birthday dinner with my grandma. She’s 88!
- - Monday: Making a trip to Maydelle, TX…which looks like it is in the middle of nowhere…to visit Lenora before she embarks on her journey. I see picture taking, pottery making and board games in my future and I am sooo looking forward to it!
- - Tuesday: Vacation day! Driving home and relaxing.
Friday Eve…ready for the weekend.
This week has been pretty darn stressful. Things are not going as planned (as if they ever do). I have been exhausted every night. This whole online dating thing is not really what I expected and it is more like online dissing rather than dating. The weather has been humid as hell, which I think adds to being tired. And this season of Glee ended. Boo.
I am so ready for the weekend. Tomorrow night I am going to a Dallas Vigilantes game at the AAC. The box seats and parking pass were free. Bonus! I am spending Saturday with my mom - hitting up the Dallas Flea, seeing Wicked and going to dinner. Saturday night is my friend CB’s birthday. I plan to sit by the pool with a book and my iPod on Sunday.
This weekend is shaping up to be a good one and I am not going to let anything ruin it…at least that is my plan.
I am so over birthdays.
Friday was my birthday. I planned everything out - dinner at Fireside Pies, Zane Lamprey comedy show at House of Blues and then back to the Henderson area for drinks. I invited my friends, who invited their friends and was ready to have a great time.
And I did have a great time, but I am just so over birthdays. It sort of felt like any other weekend night, just that people were buying me drinks and I got a few presents. And there is always some kind of drama, which I will leave out of this post.
Next year, when I turn one year closer to the big 3-0, I just want to do something for me. Have a really nice dinner. Take a trip. Go to a spa.
The rest of my birthday weekend was spent staying in bed on Saturday until 3pm and catching up on Glee and Parenthood. On Sunday, I went grocery shopping, cleaned my entire house, went to Half Price Books, did 5 loads of laundry and finished the book A Thousand Splendid Suns (which I highly recommend).
So yeah, happy birthday to me.
Happy birthday to me.
Today I am 27 years old.
I am entirely too close to 30.
I hope this year brings more good times with family and friends.
And even more happiness.
Maybe 27 will bring me a man…
27 will the year I buy my first place.
Cheers to 27!
