Jersey was very unhappy when I put this too-small Halloween costume (that I got from work for free and planned to give to my parents for their dog, Nugget) on her. She basically just flopped over and refused to move.
My mom asked for a painting of an ocean and sky with birds. I started it last week, but since I don’t have cable…I put a lot more time into it this afternoon. I like the sky, but the ocean is crooked and its too dark. It needs some more work before I can give it to her on Mother’s Day.
Right after I took this picture one of my cats decided to jump up on the desk. There were paw prints on the canvas and blue paw prints throughout my entire upstairs. Figures.
A few crappy camera phone pictures from Buster’s (oh yeah, his name is Buster) first weekend.
Cat Names.
I have been thinking/researching cat names randomly over the course of the day and getting suggestions from friends and coworkers. Here are some contenders so far:
- Ace (I am liking this one the best right now)
- Jax
- Rex
- York (like Jersey and York…get it?)
- Tex, Walker, or Chuck (from leeleeleelee)
- Miles (yes, like Austin)
The search continues…
Meet…my cat that doesn’t have a name yet!
After a few days of searching online and one failed visit to a shelter last Sunday, I found this guy. His current name is Saki, but I plan to change that. I am adopting him from Cat Matchers and the woman who is fostering him has been so nice and accommodating.
I am picking him up on Saturday and I hope Jersey likes him and doesn’t beat him up! Now I just need to think of a name…
I just couldn’t do it.
I went to Dallas Animal Services today. I spent an hour with the cats, with a break in between to check out the dogs, but I just couldn’t bring myself to adopt a cat. My heart broke about a thousand times just thinking about all the poor animals there, especially the ones that are scheduled to be put down this week. I had to hold back the tears a few times while I was there.
I fell in love with a Tabby/Siamese mix, but he was already adopted. I also fell in love with a super sweet Tabby, but as I was spending some time with him, a couple who was interested in him earlier in the day came back to sign his adoption papers. I was almost sure I was going to take home Myles, a little short hair mix, but something stopped me.
This would be my pet. A cat who would hopefully be around for many, many years. I want to know I am making the right decision. When I adopted my cat Jersey four years ago, I saw her online, went to the shelter, went home and immediately went back the next day. I knew she was the right cat for me.
I plan to continue my search until I find the right cat for me, and for Jersey.
I grew up with cats. My family is, and will always be, cat people. I remember Emmitt as a tiny kitten. He used to sit next to or on top of the TV and actually watch the picture move. Today, my mom and dad had to put Emmitt to sleep. He had a good life…11 years. He is at peace now.
RIP Emmitt “Smith” Calabrese.
