My mom is the hardest person to buy Christmas presents for.

I finished all of my Christmas shopping today…except for my mom. I have a few things for her already, but I am looking for at least one more. She is the hardest person to shop for because when she wants something, she just goes and buys it and when you ask her what she wants, she always says “Nothing.”

I am debating on a few things right now, but I am not sold on any one thing. Suggestions?

Goals for my long weekend.

  1. Paint my bathroom.
  2. Check air filters (random, I know).
  3. Go to First Trade Mondays in Canton, TX. The world’s largest outdoor trade days (if not Canton, The Dallas Flea).
  4. Make reservations to take my mom and grandma to holiday tea at the Dallas Arboretum.
  5. Buy tickets to see the Radio City Christmas Spectacular. In Dallas, not New York City.
  6. Start Christmas shopping!

Random, fun, hilarious, relaxing weekend.

  • Friday - Waited in line for 1.5 hours to see “New Moon.” I was, by far, not the oldest person there. And I am not talking about the parents that were there to escort their obnoxious teenage daughters. There were definitely some 30 and 40-something women, decked out in “New Moon” gear, waiting in line with us.
  • Saturday - Went to the Etsy Dallas Jingle Bash. It was entirely too crowded and the venue was not easy to get around. I didn’t buy anything. Went to Big Lots, Garden Ridge, WalMart and Ulta and bought Christmas lights, some decorations, eyeliner, nail polish, a scarf and some compartment plates because I hate when my everything on my Thanksgiving dinner plate touches. Went to Elbow Room for pizza and beer, then to the DoubleWide, then to Lee Harvey’s. I had never been to Lee Harvey’s and it was quite the interesting scene. I think it would be more fun on a warm, summer night, but I did enjoy the The King Bucks and their funky country sound.
  • Sunday - Lazy day of watching football and napping on the couch. The Cowboys have been playing so shitty lately, the game actually put me to sleep. Made pizza and it didn’t come out that great. Now, I am about to brave the crowds at the grocery store and pick up the ingredients for an apple-pear pie I am making for Thanksgiving.

Halloween weekend recap.

I had one of the best weekends I have had in a long time.

  • Friday night - Went to the Gilda’s Club of North Texas Rock the Red Door event at The Loft. The Spazmatics played and they were awesome. I definitely need to catch them the next time they play. After the event, I went to the am/pm lounge with my friends Ashley and Makenzie. We were in the mood for a change of scenery from Uptown and trust me, downtown is definitely a change. We danced, probably a little too crazy, and had a really good time. We saw and attempted to take a picture (FAIL) with Mario Lopez! Who knew random celebrities hung out in downtown?!
  • Saturday - Headed to Ikea, the Allen outlet mall and Home Goods with Ashley. We really made the rounds in the ‘burbs! I bought a shelf/pot rack for my kitchen and a muffin tin. After a long day of shopping, I headed back to the ‘burbs with Ashley to a Halloween party at her friends house and then we came back to Dallas to hit the Dervish Club Halloween party at Madison Ave. Saw some good costumes, which gave me the idea to be something more creative than a cat next year. I might attempt to come up with a way to be a bowl of spaghetti and meatballs. Madison Ave. was packed and we left around midnight.
  • Sunday - Grocery shopping. Six loads of laundry. Mopped the floors. Cleaned the bathrooms (cleaning 3 toilets sucks). Watched the Cowboys beat the Seahawks. Baked apple spice muffins. Got my car washed. Bought pre-sale tickets to see New Moon (shut up). Started re-reading New Moon (shut up again). Relaxed before another exhausting week of work.

I just looked at my credit card balance.

Holy hell. I really need to stop shopping. I have been going a little crazy buying this for my house. I think I need to start pacing my purchases.

Condo update.

I have become more and more frustrated over the past few weeks. I have seen close to, dare I say it, 50 condos all over Dallas. I know exactly what I want. I know where I want to live. And I know how much I want to spend.

After another round this weekend, I found a really nice place in the same complex as the condo I made an offer on about a month ago. I would have to compromise, since it is a first floor unit (I want a two-story). I would have to deal with hearing people walk upstairs, but I would have direct access from covered parking (which looks like a garage without a door) into the utility room (and a front door around the corner, of course),

After some thinking and a few long discussions with my parents, I decided to make another offer on the condo I made an offer on about a month ago. The seller dropped her asking price and I upped my offer. I made the offer, no negotiations. Take it or leave it. If she doesn’t accept it, I am going to make an offer on the other place.

I am so stressed out (and everything at work isn’t helping) it’s hard to concentrate. When I wake up in the middle of the night, I can go back to sleep because I keep seeing condos and dollar signs in my head. I am not a big prayer, but I have found myself asking the Big Man for some help.

Fingers crossed.

Good weekend…except for Sunday.

This weekend was one of the best I have had in a long time.

On Friday, I spent the afternoon with my friend Ashley. It’s been a while since we have had some good girl time and shopping was the perfect idea! She was on the hunt for shoes and I ended up buying a sweet pair of Rock & Republic jeans at Nordstrom Rack for $65. Good deal! We ended up going to happy hour at Park, a new bar on Henderson, which looks like a backyard beach bar in California. I think it is our new fave place. We plan to make it our regular spot. We sat and talked for way longer than happy hour lasted and had a great time. After Park, we ended up at the Sick Puppies concert at House of Blues and thanks to our fave marketing guy, Scott, we got some All Access passes and had some drinks with the band.

On Saturday, I went condo shopping…again…with my parents. I am trying to be open to the thought of not living in Uptown and after Saturday, I think I am OK with that. I may not be ready to consider Addison, but I found an AWESOME place in White Rock Lake. Keeping my fingers crossed because there are some things that need to be addressed with the condo, but also trying not get my hopes up too much. Saturday night, I had some drinks with Ashley and saw a guy I didn’t think I would hang out with again. I am not saying any more than that.

On Sunday, I was actually sick as dog. My stomach was in knots all day and I seriously saw spots while I was taking a shower and thought I was going to faint. I spent the whole day in bed and feel MUCH better today.

Overall, it was a great weekend!

She works hard for the money.

I am so close to making an offer on a condo. It’s been months of searching, making appointments for showings, attending open houses and being so frustrated that I didn’t think I would find “the one” and now I am days away from making an offer.

I think I might puke.

I just looked at my finances for the billionth time and I seriously can’t believe I spend so much money on food, both restaurants and grocery stores, and going to bars. I am officially cutting myself off from going out to eat so much and I am drinking the wine sitting on my wine rack and the leftover beer from 4th of July until it is gone. I will eat my refrigerator, freezer and pantry clean and try to only purchase things that go bad (i.e. milk, fruit, veggies) and necessities (i.e. toilet paper, shampoo, soap).

I have been waiting so long for the day I would own my first home and it could be sooner than later. It’s time I start getting my shit together and take my finances seriously.

You are what you drink.

I ran to Kroger after work to pick up some random things I was out of. I only had a few items and didn’t feel like using Self Checkout (which I am normally a big fan of, but the line was too long) so I waited in the 15 Items or Less line.

While I stood there for about three minutes or so, I witnessed two separate guys - one in the line next to me and one who stood in line behind me - buying some beer.

Both guys looked to be normal, 30-somethings who obviously live in the area. I would have pegged them as Miller Lite or Bud Light guys, but no. The guy next to me had a 6-pack of Keystone Light. The guy behind me, a case of Natural Light.

A word of advice guys, women do judge you by the type of beer you drink. And Keystone and Natty Light just won’t cut it. Welcome to your thirties, this isn’t freshman year of college anymore.
