How yoga made me sick…a true story.

You’d think with all this unplanned extra time on my hands, I’d be working out. Truth is, I hate working out. It’s not fun for me. It’s work. I was regularly going to yoga for a solid few weeks, which is the one workout I actually like (besides walking), but that ended when I got sick about three weeks ago. And I blame getting sick on going to yoga. Why you ask? Think about it…

Forty sweaty, gross people in a room that pumps up the heat and humidity. They are laying on the floor. Sure, they are on their own mats, but their sweat drips on the floor or soaks through their mats. The instructor is telling them to b-r-e-a-t-h-e….so they do, releasing all of their germs into the sticky air where they linger around until the door opens and the next class floods in the room.

The yoga studio I used to go to never cleaned in between the afternoon/evening classes and I don’t know if they cleaned in between the morning and noon-ish classes because I rarely went to those. How completely unsanitary.

Three weeks ago I got sick, the sickest I have been in years, and it started the day after I went to yoga class. And with no health insurance, I paid the MinuteClinic at CVS to tell me that I had a virus and that they basically couldn’t do anything for me. I drugged up on OTC meds and cough drops. I felt awful, just awful. I had my trip planned for Las Vegas so I pushed through that with laryngitis and an awful cough that got worse after I got home. I was coughing so hard that I pulled the muscles in my rib cage/chest, which lasted for another week. I probably too much Aleve, but the pain is finally gone.

So thank you yoga, for getting me sick.

Now, I have three more Groupon, Living Social, etc. yoga coupons to use and I would never just throw that money away. I actually miss going to classes too. I guess I will have to bite the bullet, load up on some Vitamin C, take antibacterial wipes to class and start going to yoga classes again.

Here a few updates on my life right now:

Being sick sucks. Being sick when you don’t have health insurance sucks even more.

This is the sickest I have been in a long time.

It started Wednesday night with a headache and stuffy nose. I made it through work and the tumblr meetup on Thursday. Friday I felt like I got hit with a ton of bricks. According to the doc-in-the-box, I have a sinus infection. I feel like a walking medicine cabinet, but despite the all the drugs, I still can’t breathe through my nose, which makes it extremely difficult to sleep. Also, almost everything I eat tastes like blah and I am so sick of soup and crackers.

Yesterday was a little better - feeling worse at night and even worse this morning. I am hoping one more day of resting up will do the trick. I haven’t left my couch for most of the weekend and I am starting to get cabin fever.

I am grateful that I only have ONE day of work this week (tomorrow), even though I have a feeling it is going to be crazy. I don’t mind putting a few extra hours tomorrow knowing that I have some serious time off. Here’s to a 6 day break!

Sick?

I am trying to decide if I need to go to a doc-in-the-box tomorrow morning.

I started to feel crappy during my CES trip to Las Vegas, but just thought it was the dry, desert air making my nose feel like it had grown like Pinocchio and my eyes puffy like I had been crying for hours.

I continued to feel crappy Monday and Tuesday, but thought it was just my body catching up and recovering from the long days on my feet, junk food, OD’ing on 5-Hour Energy and drinking too much.

Now it is Wednesday and I woke up with a lump in my throat. It’s been there all day. A couple of Advil help and tea helps a little more, but it doesn’t seem to be going away. If I still feel crappy in the AM, I might have to make a trip to the City Doc for strep test.

I haven’t been sick in years, so I am hoping that this is a cold or simply just a sore throat. I am going to drug up and pass out early tonight.

Today would be the perfect Sunday if…

Good weekend…except for Sunday.

This weekend was one of the best I have had in a long time.

On Friday, I spent the afternoon with my friend Ashley. It’s been a while since we have had some good girl time and shopping was the perfect idea! She was on the hunt for shoes and I ended up buying a sweet pair of Rock & Republic jeans at Nordstrom Rack for $65. Good deal! We ended up going to happy hour at Park, a new bar on Henderson, which looks like a backyard beach bar in California. I think it is our new fave place. We plan to make it our regular spot. We sat and talked for way longer than happy hour lasted and had a great time. After Park, we ended up at the Sick Puppies concert at House of Blues and thanks to our fave marketing guy, Scott, we got some All Access passes and had some drinks with the band.

On Saturday, I went condo shopping…again…with my parents. I am trying to be open to the thought of not living in Uptown and after Saturday, I think I am OK with that. I may not be ready to consider Addison, but I found an AWESOME place in White Rock Lake. Keeping my fingers crossed because there are some things that need to be addressed with the condo, but also trying not get my hopes up too much. Saturday night, I had some drinks with Ashley and saw a guy I didn’t think I would hang out with again. I am not saying any more than that.

On Sunday, I was actually sick as dog. My stomach was in knots all day and I seriously saw spots while I was taking a shower and thought I was going to faint. I spent the whole day in bed and feel MUCH better today.

Overall, it was a great weekend!

Human again.

After spending the entire weekend on the couch or in bed, I finally feel like a human again.

I hate being sick. Whenever I am under the weather, I try my best to stay inside, take some medicine, eat soup and drink OJ so I can fight it off, but that makes me feel completely shut out from the world. I always seem to be sick over the weekend too, so I miss out on fun stuff and then have to go to work on Monday.

At least there are cupcakes and Rice Krispie treats in the office today.

Getting sick.

You know how I can tell that I am getting sick? One side of my throat hurts.

I woke up this morning with a swollen left gland and my throat has been bothering me all day. I am also extremely exhausted, which can either be attributed to getting sick or work. I have a feeling tomorrow morning, I will feel pretty crappy.

Time for some OJ and Nyquil.
