An update to make up for my lack of updates.
So I have been MIA over the last few weeks. Here’s what’s been going on:
- - Work is good! Busy, but good. Things have been a little challenging with some projects I have been working on. My boss left about 3 weeks ago. But, I feel like I have learned and have grown so much in just the few months I have been at my new agency.
- - I am still going strong with the gym. It’s been about a month since I joined and I have been going 3-5 times a week. Maybe I am just on a gym high or something, but it’s sort of addicting. And it helps that there is a super cute guy there every day during the week between the 6:15 and 6:45pm timeframe that I consider my motivation. Oh, did that make me sound like a stalker? Well, I don’t even know his name and have never talked to him, but I like to consider him my gym boyfriend. Ha. Now I just sound like a crazy, desperate woman.
- - I’ve also been doing well with my diet. Weekends are tough, but I’m sticking to it as best I can.
- - Remember my online dating fiascoes last summer? Well, I ran into two guys I went out with (only once) that I met online at the same bar, two weeks in a row. I didn’t talk to them, but one had a serious beer belly, which he didn’t have last summer, and I think the other was with his boyfriend. Those were some real winners.
- - It’s hot. So hot, I haven’t been to the pool in a few weeks. So hot, I dread getting out of my car if I have to leave during the day for a meeting or run errands on the weekend because all it takes is walking from the car to the entrance of the store to start sweating. Or maybe less than that.
And that’s it. Life as usual.
No AC.
I dual-zone AC and two units outside my condo. On Monday, the unit that powers my downstairs AC crapped out. I haven’t had AC downstairs since then, but to be honest, it hasn’t been too bad. It was pretty hot on Tuesday when I got home from work, but I realized that if I leave my fan on during the day, it keeps the air moving.
The AC is coming on Friday, so I’ll be working from home Friday afternoon. Let’s hope whatever is wrong doesn’t cost me an arm and leg though…I just got my first paycheck at my new job and I would prefer not to blow it all on my AC.
The plants on my patio are in full bloom! I did some work out there today - planted a few more plants, put down another bag of mulch and filled some pots with rock in an attempt to keep the squirrels from digging in them. Let’s hope my green thumb stays green throughout the summer.
I’m in need of a shoe overhaul.
Earlier this week, I took out my favorite Nine West wedges, that I have had for a few years now and have only worn once this year when it first started warming up, and the right shoe was destroyed. Basically falling apart. I don’t know how I didn’t break my neck (or face) when I wore them a few weeks ago.
I have lots of cute flats, but I have no spring/summer shoes. I know I am trying to save money, but I see shoes in my near future.
Is fall in the air?
Monday was the hottest day on record in the DFW area. It has been unbearable the last few weeks, so much so that I have only been going outside to a) get in my car, b) walk into my office, c) go to the pool or d) go somewhere that has AC.
Today, what the weathermen are calling a cold front, blew through. And it feels amazing! Going from 106 degrees (with a heat index of what feels like 150 degrees) to 90 degrees is a huge difference. It’s about 86 degrees right now and I just took Jersey (my cat, for those of you that don’t know) outside on my patio.
Is fall in the air in Dallas? Probably not just yet, but this “cold front” at least gives me something to look forward to. I am looking forward to pumpkin-flavored things too, especially lattes.
Kickball: Game 1
Well, Sit on my Base (that’s our team name, I am not trying to be dirty) won! But…we lost too. Want an explanation?
Each team has to have four girls to play. Our opponent, Snitches Get Stitches, had three girls. They had to forfeit. Yay! We decided to play them anyway and pretty much got our asses handed to us. We celebrated our win/loss at Stan’s Blue Note with crazy cheap beer.
I had a good time. I kicked well. Didn’t get on base, but kicked well. I need to get over my fear of catching the ball. I was a little out of my comfort zone tonight since I still don’t really know everyone, but it’s a good feeling. It’s good to meet new people and I am glad I signed up. So far, (mostly) everyone is super nice and fun.
Quote of the night: “Ya know, if you catch it…they are out. So you can’t let it bounce.” Wow, really?
Cold-Brew Coffee
Makes 4 servings
- 1 cup coarsely ground coffee
- 4 cups water
1. In a large jar or container, combine the coffee grounds and cold water. Stir, cover and let sit for at least 12 hours, preferably overnight.
2. Line a coffee dripper or fine-mesh strainer with a coffee filter and place over a pitcher. Slowly strain about half of the coffee. Replace the filter with a new one and repeat with the remaining coffee.
3. Pour the coffee over ice and dilute to taste with water and/or milk.
Thanks, TastingTable!

-500 Days of Summer
It’s only June and the temperature on my car said 107 degrees today. It was 108 degrees for a brief second, but I was driving and couldn’t snap a picture.
