Beer.
Since I forgot to eat breakfast, I have enough WW points to have three light beers tonight. Woo hoo!
Since I love fruit, this new version of WW actually seems a little easier. Granted it has only been two days…I was starving when I came home tonight and downed some leftover whole wheat pasta with chicken that I made last night and then cooked some broccoli because I was still hungry.
I think I need more protein throughout the day. Or I just need to stuff my face with fruit and veggies all day.
Back on track…for now.
For not going grocery shopping for a couple of weeks, day one of getting back on track went well. Thanks to my well stocked pantry and freezer, a pineapple that my mom gave me over the weekend and a 6 inch turkey on wheat from Subway for lunch, I was pretty much set for all of my meals.
I had every intention to go grocery shopping after work today, but after being out of the office for 10 days, catching up on hundreds and hundreds of emails, client calls and stressing out and the rain and cold, I just wanted to come home and crawl under the covers.
I even found some staples (corn, black beans, diced tomatoes and chicken broth) in my pantry and freezer and was able to cook up a pot of mexican-inspired soup for lunch for the rest of the week.
I cleaned out my pantry and threw away a sad amount of expired snacks and stuff, so I might have to run to the store to pick up some staples, but I am going to try and eat what I have. The fact that I am going to be traveling next week for a week, it’s probably a good thing I don’t stock up now.
The one thing that is on my mind though is New Years Eve and the amount of food and alcohol I will probably consume. And what’s even worse is thinking about Las Vegas…again, all of the food and alcohol I will probably consume. Every day is a new day.
Getting back on track.
I have been feeling rather plump lately. All the holiday goodies, drinks with friends and eating out have really gotten to me.
Over the last couple of weeks, I signed up for two yoga classes - one from Groupon and one from Living Socials. Both at 30 days of unlimited classes, so I plan to start up after the new year.
Today, I took a big step, in my opinion, and signed up for Weight Watchers. I have always just done it on my own and wrote down my meals in a notebook. Now I bought the new books and signed up online to track my points and activity. I am going to try to start tomorrow and get used to the new points system for a about a week or so, but then I am off to Las Vegas for a tradeshow for my client (CES, for those of you interested).
Traveling for work, when I don’t have too much of choice on meals, have the opportunity to eat expensive dinners, drink nice wine and stay out into the wee hours of the night, is very difficult for me. I know I won’t be able to stay on track while I am in Las Vegas, but I need to try to make better choices. And I need to learn how to keep the mentality that every day is a new day and if I eat bad, drink too much or don’t exercise, I can always start over the next day.
Skinny Taste
Definitely my new favorite, go-to healthy Web site.
No-bake cheesecake, spinach lasagna rolls, chicken and white bean enchiladas with creamy salsa verde. Sounds delish!
Diet update and my new favorite snacks.
I have been doing Weight Watchers since January 12th. I allow myself one cheat day a week, where I can eat and drink whatever I want. If I go out for happy hour or lunch during the week, I try not stay as close to my points allowance as possible. So far, so good. My pants are even starting to fit better!
The one thing about “dieting” that I like is that it forces me to be creative in the kitchen. Last night I made a frittata with Egg Beaters, egg whites, veggies and lowfat cheese. I made taco soup, which consists of ground turkey, beans, corn, tomatoes, chicken broth and taco seasoning. My new breakfast go-to is fat-free Greek yogurt with berries and some granola or some Fiber One cereal for crunch.
I have also found some new points-friendly snacks. And a tip for anyone who might be looking for some healthy snack foods - Target has THE BEST selection. Some of my new favorites include Quaker Rice Snacks Mini Delights in Cinnamon Streusel, Emerald 100 Calorie Almonds in Cocoa Roast/Dark Chocolate, an apple with Laughing Cow Original Light Swiss Cheese spread on it (Don’t knock it ‘til you rock it! Thanks, HungryGirl!) and Fiber One bars. And Stash decaf tea in Chocolate Hazelnut flavor (with some skim milk and Splenda) is an awesome way to satisfy my sweet tooth at night.
And the diet continues…
Diet: Day One & Some Realizations
I planned my meals out last night and was all set for today. I even set aside enough points to grab a skinny latte from Starbucks before my two hour client meeting this afternoon. I was starving at 10:30am so tomorrow I need to plan for a mid-morning snack.
Weight Watchers has always been the easiest way for me to diet. I like the fact that I can basically eat anything I want, but in moderation. If I eat something that is high in points, I just cut back throughout the rest of the day. And I am the type of person who tends to splurge every now and then, so I have come to the realization that it is OK to eat a couple slices of pizza or a piece of cake and just start over the next day. I can’t completely deprive myself of junk food or I would go crazy.
On to day two. And don’t worry, I won’t tell you about every meal I eat or fill you on every day. I might just need to complain for a few days while I get over being hungry.
I am stuffing my face with Oreo cookies right now.
Why?
Because I am officially starting my diet tomorrow and I need to make sure the cookies are gone.
Goodbye cookies, hello Weight Watchers.
